Tiny Home Sustainability

This tiny house operates solely on electricity, eliminating the need for propane. This decision simplifies the setup and reduces the environmental footprint.. The monthly electric bill for this tiny house is approximately $60, resulting in highly cost-effective living, excluding expenses like insurance and taxes.

With a footprint of only 456 square feet, significantly smaller compared to a 1,300 square-foot house, maintenance requirements and utility costs are significantly reduced. Additionally, living in a smaller space allows for a decluttered and simplified lifestyle, freeing up mental and physical space to explore other aspects of life.

The Process

The initial challenge was determining the desired rooms and their size and placement for comfortable living. Through a collaborative design process, Hensley Homes successfully mapped out the desired room layout and adjusted the dimensions to accommodate needs.

The decision to forego a loft bedroom was driven by the need for accessibility and safety. Creating a main floor bedroom became a key element to ensure comfort and well-being.

Translating design ideas into the actual layout proved to be challenging. However, prior experience with the cargo conversion provided valuable insights on space requirements for cabinets, plumbing, stairs, and other design elements.

Additionally, due to the unique layout needs, Hensley Homes encountered difficulties in finding a trailer manufacturer willing to build a non-standard size trailer. Eventually, we connected with Tiny House Basics, who connected us with a builder in Texas, leading to the successful procurement of a trailer built to specifications.
